Contrary to the other teams we have seen, this team fought hard to be on this list. They faced adversity at every corner. It all started in November when they mourned the death of their coach Bob Johnson. It was almost an early first round exit when they trailed 3-1 in the best of seven series against the Washington Capitals. They then rallied to win 3 straight to then eliminate the Capitals in game seven. They then fell back 2 games to 1 against the New York Rangers. They had also lost Mario Lemieux the league leader in scoring that season with 131points to a broken hand from a slash in game 2 (Coffey, nhl.com). The penguins then railed once again to win 3 straight games to beat the Rangers. They then swept the Boston Bruins in the conference finals taking a seven-game win streak to the Stanley cup final where they would face the Chicago Blackhawks. The first game they were down 4 to 1 in the first period. They came back to win that game 5-4 with Mario Lemieux scoring with nearly 13 seconds left in the game to take the lead for the first time. They then went on to win the next 3 games. Winning the Stanley cup on a eleven game win streak. Tied for the longest in NHL history with the Chicago Blackhawks who had won 11 games in a row before the start of the Stanley cup final that same year. And the Montreal Canadians of 1992-1993 (Coffey, nhl.com) .
